Wood Burning Fireplace

There is a wood burning fireplace in each cottage. You can bring fire logs or some dry wood to enjoy a cozy fire.

Fire logs are easy to operate. Just light the wrapping paper and watch beautiful flames for about three hours (5 lbs. fire log). There is no fiddling around with kindling and large wood pieces.

On your way to Fossil Bay Resort you can stop in Sooke and purchase fire logs. Those stores, all located in the center of Sooke, have them usually on stock:

prevention of forest fires

Every summer wildfires burn an average of a quarter million square kilometers of Canadian forest. British Columbia has about 2,000 wildfires every year, of which at average almost half are caused by people. During the dry and hot periods of the year it is therefore extremely important to be careful to prevent wildfires.
It could happen that you wish to extinguish a fire in the fireplace, e.g. when a special weather situation causes some smoke in the cottage. In that case never throw burning or smoldering firewood in the area surrounding the cottage.
Rather place the wood with the fireplace tools on the sundeck and use the teapot to extinguish the fire with water.

It is important for tourists to know that the importation of firewood to Canada is strictly forbidden, as the the introduction and spread of invasive alien species could be disastrous for Canadian forests.
